Welcome to the final section of our comprehensive course on training dogs to assist individuals with medical disabilities such as diabetes, seizures, psychiatric disorders, migraines, and more. In this advanced module, our focus shifts towards the specific tasks these dogs will perform to aid individuals in need. Throughout the course, conducted via Zoom, you will embark on a 10-week journey of live teaching sessions, each lasting an hour. However, to fully grasp the concepts and techniques taught, you will be required to dedicate a minimum of 3 hours per week to practice outside of class. Additionally, access to a dog that you can train throughout the course is essential. Here's what you can expect to learn: Proven Methods in Alert Training: Discover the science-backed techniques used in medical alert dog training, allowing you to effectively teach dogs to detect and respond to specific medical conditions. Some of the tasks we will be covering are: - Pressing Buttons: Train dogs to press buttons or switches to summon assistance or perform other tasks. - Bracing: Learn how to instruct dogs to provide physical support or bracing for their handler. - Object Retrieval: How to teach dogs to retrieve medications or necessary supplies in times of need. - Getting Help: How to teach dogs to seek assistance from others when needed. - and many more... Through hands-on instruction and practical exercises, you will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to train assistance dogs effectively.
